This morning my left 105 STI lever didn't want to release down, it eventually did. Now it won't shift up at all. Kinda clicks but doesn't stick. 4 months new, regular but gentle use.
Worth a warranty claim with my (hardly L)BS? Fiddle with it myself? I can at least use the limit adjusters to keep it in the big ring till I sort something, but almost puked at the cost of new 105 STIs.
After checking all the cable runs and stuff to make sure it's not just a daft mechanical problem, it may be the STI unit itself.
Some folk recommend hosing it through with WD40 or some such stuff, but I've found recalcitrant STI units respond best to being taken off the bike, (means new cabling), and washing out in a strong solution of washing up liquid and hot water, like really hot. Then rinse with fresh water and test in the sink, see if it still clicks and releases. Then use a little bit, that's a LITTLE BIT, of lube, maybe some chain oil type stuff dribbled into the innards.
If this jeffs it up beyond repair, don't complain to me, but it worked for me before now.
