*Car had supervising human but he didn't react in time after car didn't "see" the woman pushing the bike.

Car didn't attempt to slow before the crash apparently and hit the woman at 40mph... The lady "might" have been crossing the road at the time by the way.

Something we will get have to get used to?

Who's fault, Uber, the tech, the human "driver", I hesitate to say it, as its its horrible thing to bring up, the woman involved?

I can see a massive payout to relatives over there....Not that, that will help the devastated family.

Let hope there is a pile of data from the car and they can work out if the car or driver should have reacted, and if not, why not.ย  Perhaps the hazard appeared so late/close that the car or human had no time to analyse what was there.

Hopefully its not something so silly that the object did not look like a pedestrian or a cyclist, (as it was both) and therefore was ignored by the car.

I think given the choice, I'd still rather walk out in front of an autonomous car with a potentially inattentive driver, or a car with pedestrian avoidance*, than a traditional car and driver.

*taking into account that at higher speeds, cars with pedestrian avoidance will often still hit you after warning the driver and scrubbing off some last minute speed.
