I need to replace my chain and have been advised to replace my cassette and possibly chainrings at the same time. I'm currently running PG950 cassette and M442 chainrings but would like to upgrade to something lighter if possible. There seems to be so much to choose from so I have a few questions:

- Shimano or SRAM? (Would SRAM even work with Shimano derailleurs?)
- Lighter upgrades to what I have? Maybe there's very little difference in weight when it comes to cogs?

Thanks.

If I were you - bang for buck - go for Shimano XT all round!

EDIT: I run Shimano XT chainrings (the 22t is Middleburn) with SRAM Cassette PG990 & SRAM PC971 Chain as I find them more reliable, i.e. the cassette has lasted longer than my old XT and the chain has not snapped once (which the Shimano equivalent did on several ocassions) - but it depends on your budget??
