[#2096307]

Put a pair of swampthings on my bike this weekend.

Got out on them today and my usually slow riding partner was keeping up with me, then in front of me as I slowly got more and more knackered.

Going downhill, they made perfect sense. Going up hill, not so.

A very strange ride indeed, cursing them all the way up, cursing them on any slight incline, but loving them on the downhill bits and on any rocky, muddy bits where they just gripped and went.

Can't decide whether or not I should MTFU and build stronger leg muscles or swap out the rear for something else and give the rear to my mate for his front.

Could your mate not be using draggy tyres too?

I've just swapped my summer Ardents for a Minion/High Roller and noticed a massive difference in pedalling effort. Having said that, the greater control was most welcome when trying to ride up a green chalk climb.

Could try going down a size to cut through the mud and also have less drag.

I must admit I was disappointed when I put some Nevegals/Blue Grooves on. The bike felt heavier, slower and just a lot more hard work...

...and that is what I will continue to blame my drop in cycling fitness on

Once went out for a sunday morning easy ride with 3 blokes I'd never met before (my wife had given me the big build-up about being a rider to one of their wives). brand new ST swampthings on; I nearly died and couldn't get anywhere near them.

10 days or so later was properly ill (chest inf) for the only time in my adult life and i like to think the 2 are related ๐Ÿ™„

I feel bad now, I've put 2.3 Nevegals on the missus' bike so that she doesn't feel skittish. No wonder she gets knackered before I did on my Ardents!

Try dual ply Continental Diesels in 2.5 - the heaviest draggiest nastiest tyres any bike could come with!

Huge difference between my Barro Mountains and the STs.

Very grippy though.
