on a small cotic soda im running a 36\22 + bash within a normal 9 speed set up.
the problem im having is the amount of chain rub on the front mech while on the 36 tooth middle ring on the widest couple of sprockets on the cassette, advice please for the best set up tips

Mine rubs when using the 2 biggest cogs at the back but I normally drop to the granny by then.

Used to run that on my medium soda without any issue. Is the mech trimmed/angled properly? You should set it up to just clear when in 36/11 and it should then be OK on the bottom end too.

What width BB shell is it? If it's a 68mm one (as I think mine is), then, assuming an external BB you could just run 1 spacer on the drive side but 2 on the NDS to shift the cranks over 2.5mm, which will make the chainline a fraction nicer at the bottom end of the block (but worse at the top).
