Staying down in Poole this weekend. Know the area pretty well but never taken my bike.
Can any locals recomend possible trails or generally nice places to ride off road?
Willing to drive half an hour or so to reach them.
Thanks in advance!
Dave
Best bet is to catch the chain ferry from Sandbanks across to purbeck (couple of quid with your bike) and do a ride there. if you have a look online for a route there are a few about-or ring Charlie bike monger as he lives there and knows it well or failing that grab a map and explore. 3-4hr rides possible without going over same ground twice.
Purbeck is the obvious one. Across Poole harbour on the chain ferry to Studland. Lots of Bridleways over there and nice views from the hills. The local OS map is your friend. I believe that Charlie the Bike Monger has something going on this weekend. I heard a mention of SSUK.
I am camping near Corfe Castle and will be riding around on the Saturday. I will have gears though.
part of studland beach is naturist ๐
As above, have a look at the map, a route via ferry, Studland, Corfe castle should be good- I don't have map in front off me but there is a ridge which runs East/West to/from Corfe you can incorporate. Pretty sure there is a route on the website routes section. Must of the coastal path is exactly that, footpath unfortunately.
Usually a load going out on the 10am ferry Sundays. I'm sure you could tag along/join in.
It's pretty easy to miss all the good stuff if you go unguided.
Alternatively contact Ride cycleworks or Dorset Rough Riders to see where they are heading out from at the weekend.
If it's road riding you want, then early Sunday a few of us are out.
Rempstone Forest/Isle of Purbeck Golf Club (via Franks Tank decent), 9 Barrow down, Corfe Castle tearooms, Kingston, Square and Compass, Swanage, Obelisk climb, Old Harry Rocks, Bankes Arms and back to ferry.
That should do the trick.
If you're from up north, don't forget the suntan lotion and sunglasses ๐
A sneaky evening ride around Canford Heath is always a winner too if you can get away with it and are staying close.
Fantastic cheers guys. Purbeck sounds ideal for what i am after this weekend. Have a few loops printed out but seems to be a quite alot to explore too.
Weather permitting it should be good!

Rusty Trowel- Thats naer on the same route i have just printed off! Covers some good ground and seems pretty varied.
More Southern than reet up north (gloucestershire) so il be leaving the sun cream. Perfect oportunity to get a bronze-on ๐

Scorching here at the moment. I can see the Corfe ridgeway out the window ๐
If you are driving down this afternoon/evening, have fun in the traffic jams ๐
I would show you around, but haven't got a mountainbike anymore and don't want to wreck my cross bike on the rocks a couple of weeks before the summer race series kicks in.
Thats alright mate, its understandable with the crosser. Will be fine tootling along anyway.
The extra hour and a half+ (if im lucky) jams are the only thing im not looking forward to about this weekend!
Back to Glos on sunday though so will hopefully beat the traffic on the return trip
Except this weekend it's SSUK, 200 of us racing, (I mean reability trialling) around a 25 mile circuit of purbeck X 2
