Question: How do you make a TT bike normally ridden by a 5'8" racing snake wife fit a 6'4" sasquatch to use in a Triathlon relay next weekend?
Answer: find the biggest, fattest, ugly-stick you can and thrash the shit out of it's beautiful face.
Kittens died in the making of this.
I plead necessity being the mother of invention. I've got all of 4 days to try and get my 40km time down to Mrs Stoner's. Afterall, if she can do it in 1h10m* after doggy-paddling 1500m, Id better have a stab at matching that when fresh-as-a-daisy or I'll be put back in the cellar with the cream in the basket again.
How quickly does Human Growth Hormone work? Is Stowford Press cider a banned stimulant?
*proxy-brag: Mrs S done came 4th in the National Age-Grade Tri champs on Saturday so she's qualified for the Worlds in Rotterdam later this year. Good girl.
Is that a carbon steerer .. ?
How are you going about balancing the air flow on each side?
That's actually relatively sane compared to some of the recent posts on the TCR#5 facebook page.
the bike is pretty gross too! ๐ฏ
Is that a carbon steerer .. ?
Ive got enough to worry about already. dont go trying new angles.
Looks like one of DTFs bikes ๐
Is that seat post out past the minimum insertion?
Shirley it would be better to just use a road bike
my only roadbike is my pompino. Not going to be setting any records on that. I have been training on it though.
Is that seat post out past the minimum insertion?
bang on it. Im not stupid you know!
Fantastic job S, you would never know it was a medium.
I always wondered why seat posts come sooo long, now I know.
ps- good luck and well done to Mrs S!
to be fair stoner, that is lovely compared to your on-one jones abomination ๐
you're going to be surrounded by triathletes and you're worried about looks...
I want a smurf hat.
Unfortunately I shall instead be riding in baggies, Spesh MTB SPDs and an enduro helmet ๐
compared to your on-one jones abomination
its not too late to put slicks on it and scare the kids you know...
Wow.
Someone once said get a bike fit, but don't you believe them you just carry on ploughing your own groove in the tarmac.
Does it weigh 12kgs with all that scaffolding on it ?
might do, but between the bike and I we'll still sneak under the 50kg per axle UCI limit. Just ๐ณ
^ see! Smurf hat makes that.
Eek, that looks scary.
If going fast is your goal then you need a skinsuit, aero helmet, rear wheel coverand maybe do something about that bottle cage.
If going fast is your goal
ahhahhahhhahhhhahahahahhh!

In which case you may as well stick to the Pompino.
Looks fine. The only concern I would have is whether you can steer OK and not have cable issues. I'd move the saddle forward, and it can be lower than your road bike by at least a cm (useful if you are passed the max already). You probably don't need quite as much rise on the bars either, it's only 58 minutes after all. ๐
And well done Mrs Stoner.

1h:18m is all Ive managed with my current gearing.
I need to go a bit faster ๐
cheers TiRed - I will bear those changes in mind when I go out for a shakedown ride tomorrow morning. Might be able to push the saddle forward a smidge, but trying to avoid hitting my elbows with my knees.
but trying to avoid hitting my elbows with my knees
You need about one inch of gap. That's currently very fashionably aero, especially with narrow elbows. A very slight downward tilt of the saddle may help with the undercarriage too, as I note you are running a standard road saddle. To be honest, whatever saddle Mrs Stoner is running may be more comfortable as it will be shorter and you'll be perched on the nose of it anyway.
her saddle has a comfy flange gap too. ๐ณ
pompino with clip-ons would be faster than that, assuming a not-hilly course.
Don't go over any potholes, given the state of that front end.
The toe overlap could be interesting. I guess as a tall fella you'll be a size 11 or so ?
The toe overlap could be interesting. I guess as a tall fella you'll be a size 11 or so ?
Aye - but there'll be no corners...
You need one of those Sky skin suits. Worth a second a km so the whiners say. No pics though, for the love of all that's holy.
On-one ain't going to warranty that frame with that seat post
When, as you surely will, you crack it
A class thread! ๐
Good luck Stoner and well done Mrs Stoner!
When, as you surely will, you crack it
TBF mrs S has earned a new frame for Rotterdam.
Im going to hit it tomorrow. Will post Endomondo results here for the piss-taking.
going to hit it tomorrow.
Mrs S?
But it's not Wednesday tomorrow!
On-one ain't going to warranty that frame with that seat post
Do they even warranty the frame when they manufacture it to the wrong seatpost tolerence ๐
but trying to avoid hitting my elbows with my knees
How are they hitting, I'm only 6'2" and my elbows sit below the height my knees reach, on TT bike elbows clear by being just in front of my knees, on road bike in aero position on hoods/drops knees go in between elbows.
Im going to hit it tomorrow.
That was yesterday, and Stoner hasn't posted yet... did he survive? Fatal frame crack doing 40 down an A road?
going out at 11am. *pray for stoner*

...I rode a time trial on one of these once (fitted with aero bars, which added to the look!)...
Thats's a cracking looking bike... ๐
In astounding news, it turns out a fat lad on a frankenbike is not, I repeat NOT faster than a GB athlete.
Who knew? Popes shitting in trees etc. Bloody daft game if you ask me.
Anyway, went out to the course a bit too hard, no Geraint-style negative splits for me! Did the 40km in 1h21m ๐
Mrs S PB on this course is 1h15m
TBF to me I have taken 4 mins off my previous best after a grand total of 260km of training in the last 2 months. Will see if I can trim another minute or so on the day this weekend.
Better than I could do mate. And far braver than me on that bike.
