[#12822916]

Having an ebike currently sat missing its motor it got me thinking, all the bikes with good geometry and acres of downtube storage have the potential to be re-purposed when the motors become unsupported bar one thing. You can’t put normal cranks on them.

Does anyone know of a motor shaped/mount Bb adapter? Something that allows a standard crank to be fitted where the motor axle would be?

Williams Racing Products makes a pinion replacement BB shell. Wouldn’t take much to change that if you asked. Similarly with other CNCers if you told them what you wanted, wouldn’t be too difficult to do

I’ve seen adaptor plates made to mount Bafang motors where a Shimano once went. Wouldn’t be hard to make similar for a BB shell instead.

Just seems that these bikes that have the older motors and batteries in the next few years will become rather redundant especially without the motor support. They may catch another life as uplift/alpine holiday bikes (bit heavy for trail riding even with the gubbins removed) you could fit a whole baguette in the Down tube!

There's a chap with an older Focus Jam2 that made up an adaptor frame for a standard BB. I can't find it in the www right now but I'll keep looking.

Can’t get that first link to work unfortunately, love the Nagano adapter but I guess that also means new battery, mounts, wiring etc etc.

Looks like the forum formatting strikes again. 🙄

Copy the whole text and paste it into the address bar.

cant imagine it would be much for a frame builder or general fabricator to knock up.
Ive seen one for an old cargo bike i used to have, where the motor manafacturer folded and the motors started to wear out.

You need a blank BB shell from a frame parts supplier, Some threaded tube at the mounting points, and the supporting structures inbetween.
you could weld it up, or perhaps wrap the parts in some home carbon fibre kit for a no weld option.

Transition have one but they designed the frame to be compatible with BB/Pinion and motor.
Doesn't help you but good idea.

You could kust take the actual motor and cogs out of an old broken drive unit and leave the axle and bearings.
