Does anyone else have an odd shaped head?

As the title.

Struggling to find a new MTB helmet, seems I must have an odd shaped head.  Each one is sitting at an angle, a couple of degrees to the right, rather off-putting when all you can see is the peak in the opposite direction to where you're looking.  Am I alone in this oddness?  If not, any suggestions for a lid that will accommodate my oddly shaped cranium?

Thanks!

Not got the exact problem you have 🤔 but I have narrow face, long head front to back, so I need a large/x-large helmet which then looks enormous and doesn't tighten properly.

Best ones for me have been Giro source and current Giro Switchblade which is probably the comfiest and best fitting I've had by far.

Get your mate to hit you with a Bible on the right side of your noggin?

I've apparently got a fat head like a lightbulb. I usually find myself a medium on length but a large on width. Specialized round-fit helmets are pretty good. It's definitely got harder to find a decent fit since MIPS became omnipresent, I reckon the shells are the same but lose some space to the MIPS liner.

I'm surprised there's not a database of helmet shapes and compatible head shapes. Could use a phone's LIDAR to scan head-shape for compatibility?

Yeah exactly the same have a lopsided heed, I adjust when I see myself in a mirror and otherwise don't worry about it.

I use Fox lids which can be shifted to look ok, but I'm sure a lot of the time they don't - exacerbated by glasses that don't align with the helmet and wonky ears don't help 🤣. Not worth worrying about too much IMO

I'm probably a fairly normal-shaped head but some brands work (Giro, Fox) and some don't (e.g. Met). I can't vouch for any of the custom stuff, but I have found that it's worth trying lots of different brands.

I seem to have a slightly offset melon in terms of azimuth.

When my helmet feels nice and evenly comfortable, there's a slight, but noticeable skew to the right.  I cant detect it in terms of feel, but looks odd in a mirror.  This is also true of the teeth in my lower jaw. they sit about half a tooth to the left compared to my top teeth.

It's like I've been a car in a previous life that was crashed and never properly straightened out.

Yup, in several ways.

It's massive, I ordered XXL and XXXL in pretty much every brand and style to the local motorbike shop to try on, thankfully they do all that for free!

It's bigger in the forehead/back than the sides, so even the biggest helmets feel like they're crushing onto my forehead.

It's asymmetric, I got one with a flip down internal visor rather than the normal external ones, and it hits one side of my nose because the helmet is rotated a few degrees.  I now wear pair of goggles instead.

For anyone interested, Giro and Bell 64cm are the same shape, but not the slightly smaller version of L from the same brands.  Their FF lineup is a random mix.  Bell motorbike helmets are all the wrong shape (not the same as the MTB lids).  Shoei and Schuberth and one random cheap Chinese MX lid in Whites are the only ones I've found that fit.

In the motorbike world you either have an Arai shape (long and thin) or a Shoei shape (oval). I'm an Arai and if I wear a Shoei which is identical to AGV, my nose touches the visor.

For Cycling I use Giro AND MET.

Never had a helmet that didn't make me look like I had a galapagos tortoise sitting on my head. I now have Giro for both on road and off and its much more comfortable.

Thanks for the help so far.  Any suggestions for a good physical store I can go to around Manchester that stocks plenty of helmets?  I tried Evans at the Trafford Centre but that was a waste of time.

This thread is terrifying, it sounds like a quasimodo impersonators convention! I hope you lot are mindful of not going outside during daylight or without a hoody on, lest you traumatise some poor kids or old grannies! 😆

Mine is just big.   Getting hats or helmets to fit is a PITA. I wear baseball caps a bit in the summer, but "adjustable - one size fits all is a load of old cobblers". When I find a rare one that fits, it makes my day.

Shoei which is identical to AGV

Nope, not for me!

What's weird is my parents have entirely normal AGV and Bell shaped heads.

What I really need is Shoei to bring out an XXXL and then stick some pads above my ears.

I've not found one that fit since I was 13 🤣

I resemble that description. I have an Arcteryx cap that fits comfortably. I’m in fear of losing it as it cost about 50 quid.

My head is like a badly misshapen potato. Luckily I discovered years ago that Bell do helmets to fit those of us of a potato-headed disposition, so I don't bother trying anything else. I just buy another Bell

Thanks for the tip, here's one in return. Fjalraven size up quite well for the melon heads amongst us.
