I’ve got a 29er but a better set of 27.5” wheels with bigger tyres. So could I get away with the change without changing the ride too much ?

Both ends? It’s a hell of a drop to BB height of all else remains the same

If it’s 27.5+ then maybe - it depends whether your frame has a lot of bb drop or not. If it’s something like a bird or Pipedream Moxie you’ll probably get too many pedal strikes.

You may also find it hangs up on stuff more if you’re on a hardtail and / or they aren’t 2.8 plus tyres.

Thanks guys. Just an idea. I’ll stick with 29 then.
I’ve only got 80mm travel forks. What do you think the longest I could go up to ?
100, 120, 130 a bit too much ? It’s an aluminium Cannondale Scalpel from 2013

27.5 x 2.8 on 35mm rims vs 29 x 2.3 on 19mm rims ( wasn't too good at sudden changes of direction 😁 )

So that’s a full suspension bike? The only review I can find is of a 2013 a scalpel 3 and that already has 100mm travel front and back. Is that the right bike? If your bike has indeed got 100mm travel I reckon you could go to 120mm alright in most cases. If it’s got 80mm then a switch to 100mm should be fine. The head angle on the pictures I’ve seen looks like it’s hit a wall head on it’s so steep - so a bit slacker shouldn’t hurt it.

I wouldn’t throw too much money at a bike that old though - the geometry isn’t worth it. If you can find a Suntour Epixon or Rockshox Recon that fits that’s probably as much as I’d spend. Just check what headtube standard you have - it might be a straight 1.5” ht if some of the models came fitted with a lefty so you’d need the correct headset to fit whatever fork you bought.

Can you still get those eccentric bbs? That might help by raising the bb height a bit

depends on the frame.. my transmitter wont take the smaller diameter fatter tres due to the chainstay design

Sell the 29in bike and buy a cheaper, unfashionable 27in one to put your wheels on?

Hey Joe (see what I did there ?) yeah it’s 80mm travel and having ridden it for the very first time yesterday (only bought it second hand the day before) it felt really smooth and I was aiming at any drop offs I could find.
My 27.5 bike has 140 front and rear but the Scalpel felt good compared.
At 5’ 6” I never fancied 29 but maybe I was missing out.
Nice pic Andy, thanks
