so can some one please tell me whats wrong with wearing lycra and riding a different type of bike? i do a awful lot of competitive raceing and often wear large amounts of lycra, peakless helmets and carbon bikes with bar ends. i also love riding my ss in baggys, ow yer i also like getting on my longer travel bike and thrashing it through some good singletrack and getting wet and muddy :).
its alll mountain biking so whats the problem ?

Well said PlumzRichard,Its not about what you wear or ride. If you race its all about speed. I would ride a shopping bike and wear welly boots if i thought they would help me win. Just ride because you enjoy it not because you have a better bike than someone else

FFS you are not reaching 100mph are you... Roadies and racers shave their legs and wear lycra because it's the tradition... And there is everything wrong with having your legs/personal garnishment compress in an uncomfy piece of lycra...

Hey PlumzRichard

Had my old eighties flo green team lycra out the other Friday at the Milton Keynes FNSS.
Got cheered on in that old kit, or perhaps maybe I was being mocked.

Is it not...?
peakless helmet no benefit over peak helmet as peak give you some shade from the sun and some cover from the mud when it's wet. Shaving legs, unless you are a professionnal that get massages or you are married to mrsflash I can't really it making you faster... ๐Ÿ˜‰

road bikes will tip you down further down on the front meaning your spending more time tipping your head looking up and this meaning that a peak would limit your view a small amount. this works just the same for a xc race bike with a very low front end. as far as shaven legs go then yes its mainly for sport massage but does also make cleaning a bit quicker.

Aren't Lycra shorts more practical really? I mean for longer, all day rides, in that they fit better and wick moisture away . Baggies are a pain in the arse once they get wet.

Still got an old pair of Endura MT500's - bloody great shorts!

There. I've said it now.

Rocket Dog the half-wits in the photos have a sense of humour ,rip it out of each other and themselves.
Just thought it was a bit odd blathering on about baggies and peaked helmets.

please lets stop this one it was only started for fun and i am sure was not meant to offend anyone. If you like lycra and shaving yer legs fine, but expect a piss take now and then and if you want to take the piss out of the rest us then fine. END THIS NOW

How the **** does a peak give you protection from the mud?

see the photo...I dare you to call him a big lycra clad fag and walk away with all your limbs and teeth in the correct place.

I'm game. Let me know who he is. Does he want a race or a fight? I've not had to fight for a while so a race is better for me.

I really like that race kit. I personally wouldn't wear it for MTBing as it falls to bits if you crash, but each to their own.

Silver pigeon not really. I do all day long rides on a baggy and they work just fine. Obviously it's a MTB baggy not a asda george one, but still. You can putt stuff like bars in your pocket for easy access or a map so you don't have to remove/unload your rugsag.

But I must say that some people should not be allowed to wear lycra (that is for the children indeed).
