Its a schrader valve so could i just screw on a schrader adapter like we used to use as kids to pump up our tyres? You know, them fabric jobs that used to screw into the pump and onto your valve?

Will I die?

you need a shock pump, well an accurate gauge that goes up 250 psi+ if its for the rear 70 psi + for forks

I'd not like to try 200psi in one of those, and I'd be quite surprised if your pump could do it either. Even if it all worked, small adjustments would be a right pain in the arse

Yes you do. You can't generate high enough pressures with an ordinary tyre pump.

What about a track pump?

i can predict what will happen here.

broken forks from ruptured bladders from forcing in too much volume and broken trackpumps from 250psi.... we used to set up a colleagues track bike with the shop trackpump as the sks rennekompressor was the only one that could do 200+ more than once in its life time.

A shock pump moves a tiny amount of air up to high pressure, a tyre pump moves a big amount of air up to a low pressure.
If you don't believe us then try it,.
You'll just lose all the air in the fork/shock and won't be able to get any more in.. Until you buy a shock pump..

In reverse, try to pump up a tyre with a shock pump, then come back after pumping for a few weeks when it doesn't work either

compressor = sledge hammer
shock pump = precision tool

Go for it, what you got to loose...

Think of it as trying to knock in a picture hook with a sledge hammer...
Honestly, it won't work..

indeedy, for the sake of £20 or less. They don't tend to wear out, unless you going rigid, you'll always need it occasionally.
Go on treat yourself.

Schraeder valve on a shock pump is different to a normal pump in that it closes the connected system off prior to you disconnecting the pump. This way you don't loose any pressure in the shock when you disconnect. So yes, you need a proper shock pump, for this and all the reasons above. They're only about £15 for a cheapie anyway. AFAIK the money-shoppe-exchange thing still works

You can buy them everywhere, any LBS, Halfords etc. Shouldn't have to wait should you? Go and get one?

Do you have air-sprung suspension? If yes, then proceed to next question...
(Next Question) Do you want to adjust your air-sprung suspension? If yes then go to 3rd question...
(3rd question) Do I need a shock-pump? If yes to this and the previous questions then go to advice below...
(Advice below) Stop asking silly questions and go buy a shock pump... 😉
