Hi
Sat at home with too much time on my hands at the moment, after a knee operation. Too many bike mags & websites have given me the itch for a new bike!
I'm mainly a mtn biker and currently have 3 mtn bikes & a Spesh S-Works CX bike (with an extra set of wheels with road tyres on). Had first op on knee last Nov (didn't fix it) and so mtn bikes have been gathering dust this year and only biking has been on the road (& strangley enjoyable!).
To have a goal to get fit before the 2nd operation, I entered the Cheddar Sportive last month. Really enjoyed it!! First time I've done a road event, and first time I've ridden 100miles in one go! Very happy with 5h40m!
I've been told 6mths rehab on the knee, and even then to go steady for the first year. So I can see next year being majority road riding. I like the idea of doing more Sportives and such and so started thinking of do I need a 'proper' road bike?
These 2 look good value (& look nice too!)

The question is, would I really notice a big differnce over my CX bike or is it just too much time browsing the internet?!
Cheers!
Yes.
There is never a time where you don't "need" a new bike.
Justifying it is a whole different ballgame ๐
You've already decided to get it anyway, haven't you. You are just looking for ways to justify it - you've come to the right place. ๐
I used to have a Planet X Superlight (the non-carbon version) and it was ace. I sold the frame and got a Kaffenback, which is a better all-rounder/commuter, but I do sometimes miss the pure racey lightness of the Superlight. I bet the carbon version is even better.
ive been riding my specialized tarmac all duraced up,got my x bike out for some wet winter rides and i hate it,it is everthing a winter bike should be ,but at the end of the day it is like riding a barge with shit brakes
As said above - you always need a new bike, but I think you need to be looking at something more expensive and glamorous than that.
If it's just fantasy internet shopping then you really should be aiming higher.
Pinarello
Colnago
Cervelo
Custom Ti
and so on.
Then when you do get around to buying the planet X (I wouldn't by the way) then you can feel as though you are saving lots of money compared with what you had been considering ๐
This need thing is mostly perception...
If you have to ask, you already know the answer... ๐
gary ... stop it .... no you're right of course.
What's the formula for total number of bikes again ??
Well, after another visit to the surgeon, and him telling me that, because of damage to back of kneecap that I should avoid out of the saddle climbing as much as possible in the future, have now made a decision.
Going to sell a bike! With that advice, probably best to say goodbye to the singlespeed bike!
Of course that means I have to replace it! ๐
As I haven't been convinced that I 'need' another bike for the road, I'm going to build myself a 29er hardtail instead. Thinking of an On-One Scandal, any views or other options?

Perfect number of bikes to own is N+1 where N is the number of bikes you currently own......!!??
So yes ๐
