After a week spent collecting the right tools*, spares and fluids, I stripped second hand pair of Pikes, polished out the score marks in the stanchions and gave them a full service an dreplaced the seals with Enduro seals.
And they still work!

Although I am still a bit nervous that compression feels harder than before I 'serviced' it. Although the weight has gone up 0.3lb to so I am guessing there was bugger all oil in the lowers before hand.
