[Closed] DIY frame respray using Aerosol paints?

[#2334057]

I've an old aluminium frame and I'm toying with the idea of tidying it up, and I was just wondering if anyone on here had stripped and resprayed a frame themselves using off the shelf products, looked at getting it done professionally but the frame really isn't worth the cost, and I've always fancied the idea of trying it myself, so has anyone got any hints, tips and photos?

Cheers in advance all.

I didn't bother and wrapped it in PVC tape instead.
camouflage tape.
It looks a bit mad.

And if it cracks, I won't know :-/

how much was the pro respray? powder coating costs around £35

by the time you buy 2 cans of spray you will already be at £20... imo you need at least primer and op coat and probably lacquer (which will be another tenner)

i've done it in the past but tbh i wouldn't bother again.

^ Using car spray paint from Halfords.

Make sure it's really clean before you start and use a fairly fine wet and dry paper to give it a good going over. Give it a little rub again after primer and between each coat, just helps the paint stick.

Best advice I ever got for using spray paint is 'mist' it on.

Good luck!

Tom

I have had good results on motorbike fremes with smooth hammerite
make sure the cans are warm (stand in hot water) and well shaken before spraying

You can do it but to get a decent finish is a lot of work and will cost you £30 ish in materials

Powder coating is cheap and easy

Okay, thanks all, so where's cheap in the South West/Wales for Powdercoating, I would like to do a two colour (one main, one as a graphics/lettering panel) and I'm thinking soft colours maybe a mocha brown with cream panel, nothing too OTT.
