heat the pipe and push it down to flare it out, then take it off and fit the crown race.

Cutting a slot in the crown race and just pushing it into place by hand is the cheats way

As above if you are fitting it then cut a slot in the crown race

I use a piece of plastic pipe ,solvent weld, with straight coupler on it. It says 'floplast 43mm' if that helps ! 43mm is the internal diameter.

Cutting the race is a good plan unless it has a rubber seal!

You should be able to remove the seal before cutting. I'm glad crown races are mostly split these days, I wouldn't buy one that isn't split anymore

Even then you can do it, it just takes a bit of care. Or to just not care if you spoil the seal obviously. Always do it to mine, it always seems insane that we still get headsets with sealed bearings and uncut "races"

Remove seal, cut slot, replace seal

I just tap them down carefully with a wide punch and hammer. Never had an issue.

I use a plastic hammer to tap them down. It's getting the buggers off that's the tricky bit!

Not if you've split them with a saw before fitting
