[#5246018]

Riding the other night and it felt like my forks suddenly seemed to be diving under breaking, never really felt this before.

Air pressure and it hadn't dropped, low speed comp was the same so upped it which didn't make too much difference. Then looked at rebound damping which even on full wasn't really slow at all.

Forks had a full service only a couple of months ago and there has been no sign of oil leaks etc.

Any good ideas.

Ta

Does sound like it's lost its oil- could have dropped it into the lowers so no obvious leak? I'm told lyriks are pretty sensitive to damper oil level.

Have you been inside them before? Personally I'd start by (carefully) removing the compression damper from the top of the fork and measuring the oil level, straightforward enough (especially if you have a think 24mm spanner to get it out without removing the knobs)

What he said, there's a seal inside the rebound damper thats non servicable which can go, so the oil drips out the bottom of the leg through the adjuster. If that goes the solution is to remove the adjuster and hollow nut and replace it with a normal bolt (i.e. same as the other leg). Rebound has to be set with an allenkey by removing the bolt afterwards. It only does it in use so you won't notice any puddles on the garrage floor.

Check the oil level, if that's gone then I'd assume it's the rebound damper thats leaking.

Great, thanks guys.

What's the best way to measure the oil, tip it out and put the right amount back in or can you measure from the top of the oil to the top of the stanchion for example?

The service guide's got info on setting oil levels, it's all written from the point of view of refilling the damper after servicing but it amounts to the same thing.

Ah, sorry, it's the Boxxer guide that has oil height measurements not the Lyrik one- the dampers are so similiar I was mixing them up ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Once I've got the compression damper out (lower legs still on) can I just tip the oil out and replace it with the right volume?

Yup. Though some'll stay in the damper so it won't be that precise, it'll certainly be good enough to tell whether it's shot its load.
