[Closed] Disc rub when cranking

[#2928440]

I seem to have been getting a bit of rear disc rub when cranking hard (such as when climbing or accelerating). It only happens when pushing down on the non-driveside crank (the disc side). I assume that it's the frame flexing a little (although my Pipedream Sirius is reasonably stiff for a steel frame). Is there anything I can do about it or do I just have to live with it? The brakes seem fine in all other respect and don't generally rub.

The bearings in your rear hub may be worn allowing the wheel to move a bit under load.

check both pads returning OK, check disc is true, otherwise...marvel at your strength.

I would grab the wheel at the top of the tyre, then look down at the disc brake rotor in the brake and gently try and move it from side to side, see if there is any play, do the same with the crank as well.

Good luck sorting it out.

Well if I grab the top of the tyre and move it whilst looking down into the caliper I can see the rotor move, but I see the same thing on my partners bike which I built up only a few months ago and so is almost new. The difference is that her Alivio (or non-groupset) brakes seem to have much more clearance between pads and rotors than with my Deore M595 calipers. I can't detect any play at the hub.

sounds simple but i had the same thing and all it turned out to be was that the quick release was not quite tight enough!! try it before you spend anything on sorting it
