My Hope 180mm rotor has been bent out of shape one too many times and my attempts to true it are making it worse. I fancy a floating rotor just so I can add a bit of bling to my bike, but are they really any better? Should I just get cheapies from Superstar?

I don't think they're any better than any other rotor I've ever used. They're only grammes lighter. Look nice though which is why I bought mine.

No they're not any better. They just look cool. I have them on one of my bikes but I'd never pay anything like full price. I also wouldn't buy anything from superstar, mind.

If you're bending them frequently you know the answer. Cheap.

bending rotors? I have never bent a rotor in all my years riding, are yours made of tin foil?

if you calipers will fit get floating rotors, they look sweet, save a few grams and you should bend them unless you badly misalign your calipers.

Al - explain. If you keep bending rotors then my guess is that an expensive one will bend just as easily as a cheap one. Buying expensive on a piece you're going to trash pretty quickly doesn't make sense. Hence go for the cheap one.

Did I miss something?

Ahh. I read your post as stating that only cheap rotors bend.

Hug?

Of course. I was puzzled not offended.

You can't afford to be offended that easily on this site.

igm the way I read your post initially was that you were stating rotors were bending because they were cheap...
.. not that you should get cheap rotors because you bend them a lot..

This. Or the similar XTR rotors. The spider makes them very sturdy. The only rotors I've ever had that don't warp/bend eventually. I wouldn't go back to any one-piece rotor now.

Superstar and Discobrakes sell the same cheap rotors.

I've had both the 180mm and 203mm and they perform great (and haven't bent). I think they look good too. Floating rotors look too fussy for my liking.

Superstar 180mm rotor here, nice quality with asthetic black edges where its been cut out. No warping and clears mud and grit fine, and nice and cheap!

I've got Hope floating rotors on the Soul, waste of money frankly, they're not even all that light. They may have performance improvements which I can't identify, you never know but as far as I can tell they don't. I've never cooked them but then, i never cooked my XTR or Tektro discs either.

Just ordered some Ashimas, they weigh nothing and by all accounts they work very well.
