Quick question...
I changed the pads on my rear disc about 3-4 weeks ago.

The brake lever keeps more or less coming in to the bar so now each time I 'need' the brakes I have to pump them a bit first to get pressure in the hydraulics. I've run them for a few years without any issues?

Any clues what could be the cause please?

You have air in them. Bleed them

Ta TJ.

Just a bit random though as for 3/4 years they've never needed bleeding!

Fluid degrades with age - should be bled annually.

did you clean the pistons before pushing them back to take the new pads - can cause seal issues / sticking if not

I'd suspect that you turned the bike upside down when you did the job, and any air sat in the reservoir previously, has found it's way into the hydraulics.Bleeding is still the solution(unless you've got a leak somewhere, obviously).

Quick 'temporary' fix maybe to ziptie the lever back to the bars over night, which should force the trapped air to the top reservoir. Though as above, a proper bleed is probably due.
