disc bolts too long...
 

[Closed] disc bolts too long for new hub

swapping a hayes disc from a defunct shimano hub to a hope xc. the bolt holes in the xc are closed ended and bolts from the disc are too long...thoughts? anyone any xc hub specif ones?
hacksaw them down a bit?

Yep, they used to be quite short, saw somebody put them into a Shimano hub and tear out the threads as they're countersunk quite a way. Probably easier to get some new shorter bolts from your local engineers suppliers, but they can be cut down if necessary, just be careful to clean up the cut ends properly.
Edit- just had a rummage and the originals are M5x8mm.

Just get some shorter ones

If yu are going to cut them down put a nut on them first, cut them, file a taper on the end then remove the nut and they should be OK to use

Sound advice from TJ there with putting the nut on before cutting. I'd back the nut off to the cut line and use that to file the end flat, when you un screw the nut you re-dress the treds at the end of the bolt.

I've had this with my Hope XC hubs, I just bought some shorter bolts from the local bike shop.

cool thanks for all that guys.... , as it worked out i needed to get out riding so did the diy job, as above, and so far so good. if the rotor falls off spectacularly will be sure to post from my hosp bed for interests sake....
