Been making a pilgrimage up to Keilder for quite a few years. Events like Keilder 100 (the old 100 mile one) and now Dirty Reiver. Nice event with camping so close to the start. Something to get me on my bike through the winter months. Anyone else in?
I think their web server was not scaled for STW levels of interest given the 502 error I was given.
I'm in again. Praying for a better winter this year and better weather for the event!
Last year was poor wasn't it. Riding through a tunnel of low cloud all day with only piles of logs to look at definitely took the edge off.ย
I / Were in. Will be the first Reiver for the bird crew. Which is odd really considering its not far from our factory of 4 years!
Last year was so grim but I have been really lucky with the other 4 so statistically I'm still positive ๐ It's a journey every year finding out where my fitness is at in April!
I did it last year with Robbo & slowpuncheur, off here.
It was a good event & I did enjoy it, but I found the riding a bit uninteresting. Maybe it was the low cloud all day, affecting visibility? After a couple of hours, it was very samey.
We camped in the teepees at the rugby club. Could have done with more loos, but apart from that they were a great option.
Food in the pub was decent.
Loads of people bailed from the 130km option because of the weather. I only signed up to that one from the beginning. No way I'd want to do the 200km distance.
It surprised me how many mechanicals there were. Mainly punctures, but several people with cranks fallen off, pedals fallen off, snapped chains etc. Make sure your bike is in tip-top condition! It's a long way to go, to have a mechanical.
It was a completely different and much crapper experience last year to any of my previous versions. Usually you get big views for miles and fresh but sunny woodland riding. Last year almost killed me. So grim in the rain, so good in the sun. Fingers crossed for 2024!
In for the first time on the 200km.
New baby due in the next few days, so I might need a bit of a push to get on the turbo over the next few months!
4 of us in and one on the waiting list.ย Not been to that neck of the woods in years and only ever found the old Keilder 100 too dull for the MTB so hoping it's more involving on a gravel bike.ย ย
In. Done the last two.
I'm only on Newcastle so normally head up their for a mooch when they release the gpx. In 2022 we rode the 135 in the snow then a couple of weeks later I was overheating but it was really windy. This year I rode it in summer kit in March and full winter kit on event day.
I'm hoping it's dry in 2024. Long wet rides are probably the hardest to deal with.
Was a bit overheated last year on my CX with a 40:36 as my lowest option. The toll road climb was tough. Bought a 42t cassette now so hopefully I will be able to sit and spin a little more.
I did the 200 last year and thought it was a great event despite the weather. Was a bit unsure of the conditions/terrain so rode a hard tail but was seriously overbiked.
have got an entry for this one but am also singed up for a multi day event in france in the summer and can only do 1 so trying to decide what to go for!
Any accommodation ideas. Everything I look at is booked....
I think the teepee campsite was advertised later than everything else so that might work out for you.
not much accommodation unfortunately- even the campsite gets sold out almost immediatelyย
