hi there... ive been riding mountain bikes for a good few years now but suddenly i find myself getting into another biking world..
ive been to a bmx track with a dirt jump bike which my son and i are sharing.. i may buy another one...
now i dont know hardly anything about these types of bikes....
so im only 5ft small thats it.. our dirt jump bike may be a medium size with 26 inch wheels.. its not too bad for size .. im just wondering if they go down to a 'small' size ..
ive had 'try out' on a few bmx bikes at the track but to be honest being so low to the ground is not for me ..i prefur to be higher off the ground .. prob cos im used to my mountain bike lol so any heads up on dirt jump bikes would be great and any info thanks in advance
Elaine

a friend of mine has a 24inch wheeled NS fully rigid dirt jumper and its great! I'm also a shortarse, but it feels like a bmx on me, and the simplicity of no gears or suspension makes it feel deliciously different.

Mrs Tonerino has a 14" kona shred. She's 5'3" and gets on well with it. I think the 14" comes with either 24" or 26" wheels.

24" bikes are an option, but a lot of them are BMX racing oriented (cruiser class) and would have different geometry and a lighter build than a jump bike.

24" wheels will suit you, try a couple of bikes out if you can (ask for a shot of the kids bikes down the jumps).

Cruiser is definitely an option worth looking at. I've tried both 20" BMX and 24" cruisers and feel much more comfortable on the latter.

I love my Commencal Absolut ๐Ÿ˜€ and me and my nephew have just built up a GT Chucker for him- they're pretty small (and cheap!) too-

edit- +1 on the BMX 24" cruiser comment as well, I'm much more comfortable on one than a 20" bike but they're still sharper and lighter than an MTB based jump bike.

You're main problem with an off the shelf dirt jump style MTB will be weight - as in they weigh a tonne compared to a BMX or a cruiser (24" BMX race style bike).
If you can manage to have a try on one then a cruiser will be a nice bike to ride around a racetrack, however they do still have quite a low BB height compared to a MTN bike - arguably better for cornering and stability. If you are dead set on a higher BB then there are a few 24" wheel bikes out there that are maybe a better option that an MTB based dirt jump bike - the Sunday Model C for example.

Having said that I have a 24" DMR Rhythm that I ride down at the track and also for dirt jumps, but its set up to be as light as I can sensibly get it.
Also having said that you can ride at the track on anything and still have fun - I regularly go with a bloke on a cyclocross bike.

OP- if you're in the North East anywhere near Hartlepool, you're welcome to have a go on my 24" BMX or my DJ bike at Summerhill BMX track one day if you like.
