Off to Spain with Joyriders in 3 weeks, and my current digi camera is too bulky to take in my camelbak, So I'm for buying a cheapish, compact digital for the holiday, and for the riding at home afterward.

Any ideas?.

How compact are you looking for?

What is your current camera?

Well the net is full of this stuff.

google canon s95 or panasonic lx5. With the Canon ahead for the less camera keen.

But in the end I just spent £50 quid for an old canon ixus on ebay so I didn't have to care what happened to it. It been in the mud already and I'm happy with the photos.

Pay a bit more (£350) and get a canon G12

Current camera is a Canon A650is. Looking to go down to something that can go in a wee side pocket of camelbak, or in a pouch on the chest webbing.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5.

Cheaper and maybe smaller, maybe one of the waterproof cameras? Look em up.

Smaller than that, I'd start looking at getting a good cameraphone.

We got Miss Sids old man a Canon IXUS 130 at christmas. Was ~£130 but it is very compact and a fine little camera to. Don't know if that is in your range or not....

G series are too big for chest pocket, even for small camelback pockets.

If you want the best quality maybe a GF2 + 20mm? NX5 maybe?

If you cannot stretch there there are a bunch of very good high end compacts, LX5 (would go LX3 and save £100 or so), S95, XZ-1 (my current favourite but love my LX3 too much to give it up). Good optics, better than most compact sensors noticeable mostly for better noise handling and normally a great deal more of control.

Cheaper than that get an iPhone 4. Very good camera for a phone.

I got a Sony tx5 waterproof/shockproof cheap from bestbuy. Great for action shots as it has a burst mode and very easy panoramic mode. Bit of hd video. Small and great for biking.

Panasonic LX5 and a LowePro Apex 30 AW to put it in - waterproof, dustproof (in theory) and can be attached to the shoulder strap of your Camelbak.

Mine is.
