Hope this isn't bad forum etiquette;
Busy this weekend with my other forum's main charity function - 50-odd motorbike riders undertaking to ride from Edinburgh to London via Belfast, Dublin and Cardiff in under 24 hours. Officially called 'The Longest Day 2009' (geddit - check http://www.thelongestday.org/), met up with a few outside town on Friday to guide them in + show a few sights.
They had arranged to start from Calton Hill, at 6 a.m. So that was a 4.45 a.m. start. But the council (?) opened the gates and, for probably the only time in my life, we were let to ride up, park & enjoy the anticipation:

We rode out up the Mound, down by the castle and out to the A71 (I only went to Livingstone though). There's something special about riding through town with 50 other (respectable) bikers. They all made it too, meeting at the Ace cafe, Lahn-donn, before 6 a.m. this morning. All that and a great hour up the Pentlands this morning, good weekend 🙂
