Well 3 in the morining or was it 2? 😉

Could not sleep, so with not much more than a single front light took on my local routes.

Things that I learnt:

A single dimming Light is not enough

Repairing a flat in the dark is not easy

riding dropoffs is mad!

The countryside is a noisy place at night

The hard bits seem easier and the easy bits seem harder for some weird reason?

Waking, sleeping cattle is not funny

I am actually scared of the dark

But boy was it fun, what have I been missing all these years?

Anyone who has not tried a proper ride at night, try it, it a blast.

Now just need to find a decent cheap light 😉

That's all......

Yes! quite a revelation isn't it? I though I was over that fear aged 10, only to re-discover it aged 36. I think it's something about being in the woods in the dark, and all the noises.

BTW - having a headlight and a bar light combo solves the depth perception problem with little drops. I've been using 2 Fenix L2Ds barmounted which I got for commutes and a Tesco £10 jobby on the lid. I'd really like a Hope One or Two though.

I never go riding on my own in the dark (38yrs old!) but this year we have had a good Wed crew so we've all bought lights and just carried on.

Turns out its just as good anyway, in fact it makes most things more exciting.

I'm using Hope 2 bought in a group buy from www.gravity-sports.co.uk with 2 batteries £160 plus a DX torch on my helmet although my charger has bust already so i'v ordered another.

Bring on the dark! as long as someone else is playing out!!

It is fun even on the road or xc.

Like a different world.

I try to go with friends but on your own it can be risky or scary!

Watch out for the Ninja Badgers. They have twice run along the trail and turned sharp right, taking my front wheel with them. As you fly over the bars you can actually hear them laughing at you.

Try doing one of the events, a couple of us went along to D2D this year, and it's night riding without the 'ohmygodtedbundyschasingme'. Amazing crack....

I spunked a fortune on some exposure lights, mate's got the Hope Vision 1, very good value

I couldn't contemplate not riding in the dark. We just carry on with our Thursday night ride through summer and winter.

I love night riding. Its so much more exciting and, even if you're on a trail you know well, it's hard to realise where you are sometimes.

I did Glentress once at night after doing it maybe once a week for 10 week (in the light) and I really thought they'd added a few sections! brilliant

Enjoy, the nights draw in a lot faster from now on in. 🙂

ski welcome to the club once you get over the bogey man thing it gets a little bit additive from there and you will soon find yourself boring for England about led lights and lummen counts 😀

Same as riding in the day but a bit slower. 🙄
