Anyone used these for an all round bike? What are peoples opinions/thoughts? Got small inside leg so need something fairly small etc.
Lovely little bikes. In my quest to own every little tiny hardtail out there before I get too old ๐ my ownership was brief but loads of fun. I'm 5'2" and ran a short frame . . . just deleted all my pics but looked a million dollars in white and rode very nicely with 120mm forks (I ran Lyriks - wound out to 140mm for downhill stuff). The shortish back end made it feel very lively and really nippy. Definitely one to come back to I reckon ๐
I'm 5'7" with a 30" inside leg, sometimes feel other bikes a bit big etc.
Owned a first gen holeshot short TT for about 18 months. I'm 5'11" and the short TT was perfect for racing but too short for me doing XC. I think it'll depend on your reach whether or not you feel you can use it as an all rounder - perhaps a minimum of 80mm stem would help it feel more 'all round' rather than the 50mm one I was running for racing. Ace frame though. The new 853/4130 version will be even better.
i got a second generation hole shot and love it to its. Im 6ft 3 and have the long TT. I would say personal the bike for me is way to small for xc. But as a bike to thrrash about on the dual tracks and jumps with the odd bit of local singletrack trashing and 4x track riding its excellent! ๐
Anyone know how much they weigh?
Mine as a bare frame weighed 5.0 lbs
So its a similar weight to a PA or BFE? I like the PA but need something a little slacker but not as heavy as the Alpine.
Yes, the Holeshot is similar weight to a Prince Albert (and lighter than an Alpine).
Ran one for a while and loved it on anything you had to work.
It's amazing to ride stood up, but I found it hard work on sat down XC type stuff around Thetford ...
Sold it and bought a Ragley blue pig instead, which is still not ideal for my normal riding but it is better
I had a first gen one for a bit a good few years back. I'm 5'9 on a good day and could get saddle up to correct height with a long post. Mine was a long, figured that the extra length would work well as an all-round bike. I even bodged a front mech on it with some cable stop or other.
TBH I didn't get on with it, I'd come off a Flow Moe which was shorter and def more playful for me. Found it hard to get the front end up on the Holeshot. I also finally realised that for me full sus bikes are better. Think it was the last hardtail I owned!
Did look 'right' though!!
I have a long (contrary to Mike's advice) Mk1 built up as a Pump Track bike. 5'9" and 32" inside leg.
Love it for the PT, have ridden it a little "around the woods". Great bike, not sure it'd be better than a small PA for more all round stuff but then it'd be you riding it not me ๐
Still not sure whether I should have gone for a short. One day, maybe .....
Holeshot is great for 4X racing and as a general "fukabout bike" (TM) for taking down to the BMX track or razzing around the woods on, hitting up the jumps and bombholes.
But unless you're quite short (under 5'5"), it's probably gonna be too small for riding long seated distances on (it's a 13" frame) and it doesn't have a front mech stop or cable routing either.
Small Prince Albert might be better.

This.
