ive got a dhx 5.0 coil shock and wanted to try and save some weight i like the travel length and the plushness...just wanted to save some weight...

reckon i should swap it for a DHX 5.0 air or something else?

i do XC riding mainly but im started to dable in the freeride stuff too.

It's a personal thing, but I really don't like fox air shocks - they're kind of 'sticky' so they don't track the bumps properly - you notice them working. I find coil shocks just get on with it and make the bike feel so much more planted. I'd always go with the extra pound for better performance, but that's just my thing maybe - I do live and ride in Spain where it's rocky and steep, though.

When I was looking round for a replacement shock (2nd hand or new) there were loads of 5 (& 3's) DHX airs available cheap.. I didn't take this as a great sign, and it seems a lot of ppl don't recommend them. TF Tuned won't even service them & made disparaging comments about them online previously, this was 2nd'd (unprompted) by the tech I spoke to there.
Not trying to put you off air shocks, just a word of warning about the DHX air (the coils get great reviews), go get an Fox RP series shock if you still want to do this.

BUT for pure plushness you won't beat a coil shock, so maybe look elsewhere to lighten your bike?

I wouldn't swap from the DHX coil to air, RP23 is a far better option.
