Ok I know it's 'only' Crankworx and not a fully stacked UCI downhill event but the field did include Branigan, Blenky, Gutierez, MacDonald, Walker, Atwill etc....and Loic Brunu stomped them all by 4 seconds and more importantly looked comfortable on the bike (unlike Gwin) when he first rode for Spesh.
Now I know Gee, Hart, Gwin, etc weren't there but that's some good going, I reckon Bruni has got the measure of Gwin already this season and they haven't even gone head to head yet.....can't wait!
yeah I can't wait for it to start either, EWS too
Isn't Hart a bit of a one hit wonder?
I've always wondered if Danny Hart will win again at WC level - 2011 was a long time ago now. It was shown on Freecaster!
He won by a similar margin last year against an arguably stronger field. I'm looking forward to this season, Peaty's last year, Bruni, Gwin and Gee on new bikes, lots of young British riders capable of mixing it in top 10, Bruni with the confidence after winning Worlds, Ratboy with a full pre season...
And stevie Smith is hopefully fixed.
Is peaty going to be in the world cups? Does he have enough points now?
I'm not sure, he needed to pick up points in a race in Portugal but failed to do so. I'm not sure if there are more races where he would have opportunity to gain points.
I'm sure it would be news worthy if he has failed to qualify - I haven't seen anything, so fingers crossed he's still got a chance.
Just over 3 weeks till Lourdes - can't freakin' wait!!
I can't wait!
Couldn't Peaty race in Uk colours if he doesn't get enough points?

Yeah, he's either got to find another UCI Point qualifying race to enter or he can ask the UK federation to allow him to ride under their colours, hopefully securing enough points in Lourdes to continue the season - it'll be a crying shame if it doesn't happen - no way for him to bow out.
It seemed to pass me by, but it seems sad that British Cycling won't pay the UCI for points scoring events for the UK and worse still the UCI want so much for them - if Peaty can't race WC this year it'll be a shame, but nearly as much of a shame if this current crop of brilliant DH racers we've got is the last because the nest generation of kids getting into it don't have the resources to travel around Europe to score enough points.
Bc probably putting money towards track cycling instead of dh as we win Olympic medals. I think uci are doing the points changes to push riders towards the feeder ixs type races rather than going straight into the world cups.
My mates and I were talking about this the other day. It was always a dream(just about attainable) to do some "local" races to get enough points on your license to race WC as a privatee. Alas, it never happened and now it's not possible.

A good summary of the bds and uci points, and on a rare occasion I'm with them, the cost (bds estimate 7k/race for a uci event) would only have helped 2 riders earn points who didn't have enough from the other races. BC are putting 25k/year into the series according to the article. Time will tell how it impacts getting talent through the ranks.
EWS have proved that they don't need the UCI it'd be interesting if DH started to think similarly
