Does anyone know if the 'run the chain from big cog to big cog outside the mech and add 2 links' is appropriate for a bike with 6 inches of rear travel?

With no sag my rear mech points to roughly 4.30 on a clock face, with 2 s bends running through the pully wheels, which I assume is correct. At full compression however the double bend disappears and the chain appears really stretched.

Whats the best way of determining if I need to add in a few more links?

Looking at this think you may need a link or two adding??? http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/chain-length-sizing

BIG=BIG+2 is fine as long as you gauge it at the longest chainstay point - deflate/remove your shock.

There is a school of thought that you only need big+big+2 at normal sag, (or mid travel to be on the safer side), not full Compr.

Unless you're into flat hucking, you only ever fully compress when you hit something at speed and you'll be in a smaller rear gear then.

When I went double and bash the chain was too long when in the 26T granny and smaller rear sprockets so I adopted the above policy and have never had a problem.
