[Closed] Derailleur/shifter setup for dual ring?

After killing my legs riding the Long Mynd on a 1x9 setup I've decided to go back to 2x9 - granny ring and middle (32t). How should the derailleur and shifter be set up and can I easily use the same ones that I used to use on a 3 chainring setup?

Right now I have it so that no tension on the cable puts it onto the granny, then have to go 2 clicks up/full tension (to what should be the 3rd ring) to get back to the big ring. Is there a way I can set it up so I just have to click once between the two rather than having a useless "middle" position on the shifter?

Just set it up for 3 rings then never put it onto the top ring?

That's what I did.

I tried that but for some reason (I guess something to do with the limit screws or cable tension?), the middle position doesn't seem to shift back up to the middle so have to shift to what should be the top ring to get it back there. Suppose its not too much of a hassle, I'd just prefer not to have to click twice each way to change gears ๐Ÿ˜›

should just need to change the cable tension on the barrel adjuster until it does.

sounds like its not set properly for granny, so is having to pick up slack with the first click then shift with the second.

tighten the cable up a bit.

You need to adjust the cable tension - thats what defines the middle ring position. tighten the cable until it clicks into middle with a single cick. Wind in the limit screws to prevent shifting into the non existant big ring

Or have you but the 32 in the big ring position? ie outside the spider rather than inside it?

Cheers guys, it was indeed the cable tension which was the problem.
