It's Flappit Quarry, and no. Quite the opposite actually, it's closed pretty much completely now.

That vid is a year old BTW, ties in with the £100 weekend article that was in the mag about the same time I think.

did they close the quarry cos too many people were getting injured ?

Denholm Elliot was a top bloke. Apparently he was gay but lived with his wife in an open relationship, his wife was entirely understanding about it and very supportive, not least because he never hid it from her.

Not a lot of people know that.

i did before they levelled it all out on motorbikes and mountain bikes its fairly cr@p and dangerous because of all the cliffs that you could easily fall off like one of my relatives did and got killed

In that video are Cheeky Monkey and knacker from SingletrAction (and Rolo the dog). Marking out a pumptrack for some STW stunt/article. It turned out STW didn't have land owners permission and it was a complete waste of the time and effort of the diggers (and cheeky and Knacker) IMO. Why STW didn;t seek permisssion to build it at Lee Quarry, Gisburn or Stainburn where it would have had a future, have been worth the diggers efforts and made a contribution to the trails, is beyond me. As it was, they built it illegally on the flappit, and it was destroyed by people on quads and motorbikes within a few weeks. thank god I didn't volunteer my time and efforts, just to fill a few pages in the mag.

Tom
Had they asked permission of the owner of the flappit, the result would have still been the same anyway, destroyed pumptack by quads and motorbikes. It was built in the wrong place, they should have approached Martin Colledge, the head FC forester at Gisburn or talked to Cheeky Monkey/Knacker (SingletrAction) about building it at Stainburn. That way, it would have been guaranteed a future, people like you who turned up to build it, would have actually been doing something worthwhile and making a contribution to the trails. I think STW just didn't give a sh1t about making a contribution to the trails and having their volunteers efforts actually count for anything. Mag deadlines are more important. Or, god forbid, the light was ideal on the flappit, for mag article photos.
