[#6207580]

So I moved to Mongolia a couple of years back, always planned to ship one of my bikes out here, but never got around to it (promotions and the hazardous air conditions )kept me from getting around to it.

I've just accepted a position in Thailand and I will be based in a nice spot for mountain biking as well as road riding. Some steep hills through national parks.

I gave my bikes to my nephews and nieces and really fancy treating myself to something new when we pop back to the UK in the summer and ship it back to Thailand for when we get there.

In my head I have decided that I need a CX bike with disk brakes, but I've fancied one for ages.

The other option is a hardtail, and some spare road tyres with me.

Budget is up to around 1kGBP I don't want to spend anymore than that, as Mongolia has turned me into a fat bar steward and I would hate to spend all that cash and find out it is just me that is the lazy one.

What recomendations are there, should I get a HT or CX? I still have a voodoo wanga frame in the UK, but I found last time I rode it my extra mass was making the dropouts slide around a bit, probably best left for my nephew to play with.

It doesn't help with your decision, but couldn't you buy something much cheaper in Thailand, especially as anything you do buy will probably have been built much closer to there than the UK?

a HT would give you a lot more riding options I reckon.

Size wise bikes are harder to come by there for me. Needs to be XL 21" 60cm for me.

I've been checking the shops online and they are generally in smaller sizes.
