It's been a bit wet this week & I need to stretch my legs a bit which leads to thinking about heading to the lakes or the peak.
Amongst others this route here which has me thinking...
There are more than a handful of routes go up Jacobs then over towards Hayfield via broad clough, farlands booth and middle Moor. Are they any good for a ride? (and, more to the point, a ride after a week of rain?) I'm thinking I could tie them onto this route easy enough, or possibly do one of the anticlockwise routes though not sure I fancy the climb/carry up Jacobs or, for that matter, that there's much which makes sense to ride the other way round. That being said, I've only ridden Jacobs once and it was the linked route broadly speaking, so I've not got much but way of experience to base it on.
Any suggestions for a good wet weather route in the lakes or peak?
I'm confused why that supposed wet weather route includes Rushup edge when they describe it as a perma-bog.... makes no sense. Surely they should route it up Chapel Gate instead.
In terms of wet weather options I'd head to the Lakes instead of Peak. In fact I do, even though I live near Manc, I almost never ride Peak in the rain as its soul and drive train destroying ( non Shimano 12 speed drivechajns are available to make it less unpleasant)
Grisedale is always a good option, even if it's raining.

FTFY 😉
Yeah, Grizedale is on the possibles list, in terms of travel from here in God's Own County it makes little odds to be honest. More than anything in inclined to that end of the peak simply because I've not done a lot of riding there. It might be that I decide against either of course and just head up to scar house instead as its much more local/I had one too many on Saturday (being over 40 one too many is just one these days really).
Jacobs is the classic weatherproof route - belies its distance and climbing as it's a hard 15 miles.
I think a Castleton loop is better, mind - something like Castleton broken rd up and around Mam Tor to Hollins Cross. Descend to Edale then Jaggers Clough, Beast, Hagg farm - unfortunately Lockerbrooke descent was blocked by some massive trees last I was there a few weeks back, so don't know if they have been cleared yet. But down to Fairholmes any which way, round, up and down Whinstone lee Tor and head back to Castleton easy on the road.
If you've brought the big legs then take the pull up to Dirtlow Rake and descend Cavedale.
Grisedale is always a good option, even if it’s raining.
Did that route at the weekend ta and enjoyed it. Though we parked at Grizedale and the climb up from Hawkshead was a slog for the end of the day! Probably didn't help we dressed for the damp cold grey forecast and absolutely didn't get damp cold and grey
