Are there any options for reasonably decent rim braked 26" wheels? These would be to go on my 1997 GT. I need at least a rear wheel as I'd like to put more gears on the back. The current hub (Shimano FH-MC12) only has a freehub for 7 speed.

Budget ?  If not bothered by looks/cost, then the Decathlon rim/disk compatible wheels are fine. You'll just have the slightly offset flange (for the disk). They have stood up to the winter commuting for me. Other option, which I'm mainly using, is handbuild some rims into 'old skool' hubs. I found some mint XT hubs and built around ACI spokes and Ryde Zac 2000 rims to keep the bike period looking.

Ryde (used to be called Rigida) still make 26" rims.

I’m pretty sure I have a set of period correct wheels in the cellar or garage. My Marin B17 came with V brakes, but with disc mounts on there too, so got swapped when funds allowed. They will be Mavic X138 rims on STX-RC hubs if they are any good to you? HG freehub.

Have you looked at Spa or SJS cycles?  There are still tourers running braking surfaces in most wheel sizes.

Halfords or Decathlon also might have an option.

As above, look on SJS. Most of their Thorn bikes still run 26" wheels, so they stock a good range.

Do Halo wheels make what you want?
