Read a couple of reviews of them which said that they do help give you a smoother stroke, but that they kinda ruined the fun of riding and the quantifiable benefit they offered was limited. YMMV of course!

I've never used them but ride with a few people who have. they say thay are hard work but I suppose that's the point. The main problem is that they are really unreliable in poor weather, requiring regular rebuilds. Not much use for a bit of kit that you'll be using as part of winter training.

Is it wrong that a cheap looking website makes me suspicious of a very expensive product?

+1 Mustard

$1000 for a crank that claims to makes you better at football, hockey, running, basketball, golf, tiddly-winks...

Insane!

The reviews I read tended to say "well I got faster over the 3 months I used them, but it was winter training, of course I got faster...".

I got similar results from taping a power balance band to my left side crank.

Yep - used them for a year or so about 4 years a go. Worth it if you are serious about your road racing. Rushing to a meeting now - will post more info a little later.

any of youse know if Durache(dura ace 7900) rings will fit on these?i know the bcds should be fine, but the 7900 rings are all uber bulky near the chain ring tabs and wonder if theyd sit right?
again there primative website isnt the best for info and cranks have come forwards rather far interms of chain ring design.

When I had mine I ran then with DA 7800 rings no problems - so not much help about 7900 rings. I used the PC for about 18 months - there is a big curve of suffering + learning while you build up your leg strength + get used to the technique. I could only manage about 10 mins on the very first ride - after a few months I was happily doing my normal number + length of rides. Had a clutch go on one of the cranks + had to send it back to the US to get it fixed - otherwise they were reliable. Important to make sure the clutches + bearings are kept lubed + cleaned. My cranks were one of the early models - I think they have greatly improved the design + spec since then. Definitely a big improvement in performance + leg strength when you get back on a normal bike. Helped me get enough points to move up to 2nd cat + with racing on the track. I retired from racing after that season so had no need to for the cranks after that.

There was a study in CW a couple of weeks ago, the long and short of it was that there were no discernible improvements in performance between athletes that used power cranks and those that didn't.

I think the summary was spend your money on something else.

I noticed a 6.42% increase in synergy when I fitted them to my Orange Five. They also feel loads better on the rolly bits at Cannock Chase.
