No, a £1500 carbon frameset would probably be stiffer and lighter. Might not look as good though.

MootoX YBB (29er MTB) is £2,900 for just the frame. Shame - I think it's the one bike I really, really want.....

not for a biffer like you but think of the s/h bargain it would be for somebody else.
moots spec each tube for the rider and get reynolds to butt each one individually, that's part of the reason they cost so much.
