How well does it recover from rain/snow/sleet/storm *crap name*?
I'm thinking it'll be a good choice for the first proper trip of the year out for a couple of lads who aren't quite as in to cycling as I am.
I've only ever been there as late as October and it was an unseasonably warm day.
I don't want to drag them out there and end up with them wishing me bodily harm halfway around on account of what I've got them in to.
Not been for a few weeks, but if it's just wet it'll be fine - there's not much mud, but there will be puddles and standing water. Expect a soaking.
If it's frozen not so much fun, but it's been warm and wet for the last couple of days so you'll probably be fine.
For me frozen is better than warm and wet as frozen often means a nice DRY ride.
I rode Dalby on Mon. Was wet but not too bad at all.
Likely wetter now (Tue) as has rained a lot since.
At approx 23 miles Dalby red can be an unpleasant experience for the not so fit. But there are plenty of bail out options (marked on posts).
Frosty frozen I'd definitely agree with you, last time we went it was like that and pretty much perfect conditions. Sheet ice not so much fun!
If risk of sheet ice (low in my experience except for some fire road sections) follow the nominated 'probe' for even more fun :D.
Last time I did it in the wet I looked like I'd been sprayed yellow.
Thanks for the answers, gives me a bit of confidence I won't get buried in a shallow grave.
I know some people don't really rate Dalby all that highly but I thought it was great as a group.
I forgot to mention that I did the full red with them last year. To their credit they just hammered in to it all, fitness be damned.
They'd been working up to it on local rides but it was probably over twice the distance they'd done to that point, and many more times the elevation change.
The never ending fire road got some complaints but no bailing out.
If we can get in the habit of going semi-regularly I'll look at a group skills course for summer. I need it at least as much as they do I reckon.
You could get buried in a shallow grave (bomb hole section).
Dalby is great unless you are unfit & overbiked ๐
Re the never ending fire road (bit that looks out towards NYM/Hole of Horcum etc?) plan to share mince pies & brandy, they'll love you for ever :D.
Tip follow the red to the very end ie don't take the newish blue option, 2 great sections after the blue option (in my humble opinion).
