[Closed] cyclocross tyre pressure question

[#5847763]

Just got a cyclocross bike for Christmas and had a couple of rides. Not sure what tyre pressure should be using as used to my anthem 29er. My weight is 75 kg (on a good day! ) and using continental cyclo x king 35mm tyres. Routes are a mix of forest tracks (some quite uneven), canal paths and a little bit of single track.
Thanks

Clinchers? If so start with something around 40psi and go down from there. It does depend where and what you ride on but from what you say I ride a similar type of trail and am riding between 35-38psi with slightly less on the front.
Tyres make a difference, I use grifo's which have a rounded profile (for racing) and they work well for the riding I do.

It's an individual preference. Experiment to see what is fast rolling whilst still giving good grip. With what you've given on the terrain then try 10% under maximum and try that. If the ground gets boggy lose some pressure to increase grip.

Bikebuoy Thanks for your comments. Yes clinchers. Explains why I thought harsh ride. I was running pressure too high.

I run 80psi front and rear in my 33c clinchers, the grips pretty good because the tyres are fantastic but it is unforgiving, just taught me to ride well for the 3pcx last year without pinching. My reasoning is that I had flatting more than I do being thrown around.

edit: I don't recommend this for races, it drops to ~40 for races.

80?!?! blimey

aroundabout 35 - 50

depends on the terrain you're riding, whether you ride heavy or light, all sorts of things

experiment, keep lowering the pressure till you get a pinch puncture, then add a bit ๐Ÿ™‚

35-40 in mine, 35mm clinchers and I'm 80kg riding the same kind of stuff

35psi??????????

Mine would be on the rims at that, but then I'm half again as much man as you lot (read that as fat ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). Around 60psi for me to stop the pinch flats.

45ish when training and about 25 when racing - running tubeless so no pinches but can normally feel the rim a couple of times a lap!

I had to use mine (vittoria cross xg pro 32s) at 60psi, anything less and I flatted most rides. But then perhaps I rode it too much like a mountain bike.

latex tubes to run lower pressures. Have run around 28 when racing on the front and was fine (using nice wide 34 clement pdx)

12 stone here and have same tyres as OP. Run them at 55 off road on Croix de fer.

I normally run mine around 50-60psi. I weigh just under 12 stone and I'm not the most subtle rider.

Maxxis Raze 35c, currently on some Pro-Lite Veleta (21mm)) rims

If ever there was a discipline to use tubeless ready or tubs then it's cyclocross. Unless of course you like the bone shaking ride and lack of grip 80psi clinchers give you. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

I commute xc on a cross bike, I started at 35psi and went up from there and tbh haven't stopped, currently running 55 front 60 rear, still get the odd pinch.
40psi felt pretty good but I was flatting about twice a week ~9 hours of riding.
See how you get on, cx racers seem to use mtb pressures so presumably cx courses have nothing to batter your wheels on, but some people are just lighter on their wheels than clumsy buggers like me, so i dunno. I know a couple of locals who run 80psi in their cross tyres.
