Seems a new low/high has been reached in the never ending battle to create new products we need.

HTF are they different to mtb shoes? Oh...mtb style sole, road style upper, latest fashionable colours.

Bah humbug.

Sidi and Duegi did cyclo-cross shoes about 25 years ago, do keep up

mountainbikers used to use them as dedicated MTB shoes weren't available, because people didn't think you needed them

oh

Less vents for running through mud
Simple one piece upper to cope with constant cleaning
Adaptable studs grips for varying conditions of hard thought to mud and sand.
Designed with running in mind, not just riding

I ride with flats on the MTB. I have road shoes. When my shoes I use for cross need replacing I'd consider a cx specific shoe.
