So the season will soon be upon us and I'm planning on doing some cross racing this year. I've been dipping my toe in the water of road racing this season with a full season of 10 mile flat TTs, hilly 22 mile TTs, and a couple of circuit races and a town centre crit and although I'm off the back of cat 3/4 races I'm not usually the slowest out there. I fancy trying my hand at cross over winter to keep fitness up and just for a laugh. I'd be interested in hearing any hints tips regarding preparation, training, leagues etc. I'll probably be looking to the North or South Wales regions but maybe Shropshire way if anything happens over there.
for what i know of the scottish series its pretty big...most races get sold out and have over 300 competitors..i was gonna have a bash at a couple this winter too although i struggle with a lack of competitive spirit! if your keen on doing any in scotland speak to craig hardie(hardie bikes) as he does a lot of em...
I'm wrexham based and I race the west mids league which is brum/wolvo based (theres a round in shrewsbury) or more often the north west league which is wirral based. There is the tli north wales league aswell which is a bit more relaxed and less full on (usually on sundays not saturdays).
Great for fitness, dunno whether its "a laugh" tho.
Its horrible,muddy,cold,painful,soul destroyng.....and I can't wait!!!!
Weekly races in Margam park last year 🙂 Looking for a cross bike at the moment so i can keep racing over the winter.
Organised by Ogmore valley wheelers i think /\
If you're curious, just try it on your mtb. I did last year and am now hooked.
No need. I already own a cross bike.
Bump for those who were racing yesterday 🙂
If you do local 10s and 3/4 crits you'll be fine!
there's a book by simon burney which has loads of tips on training, racing and preparation
I race the Welsh league quite a bit: www.cyclocrosswales.co.uk
Although the name is a bit of a lie as a the races are in S Wales!
If you've got a 'cross bike and are accustomed to the pain of crits, give it a go. You'll probably love it.
