Been looking for a decent jersey this morning for the weekend, spent ages looking round, but everything you see and think "yeah that's nice... " Is £40 ! Even £60-70 !

Ended up with a 'Funkier' jeresey which was £22 i think.

I often go for a cheap Decathlon which does a job, but wanted something with 3 pockets, they only have 2.. But even the decent ones on Decathlon are the best part of £40 !

So, where/what/who for nice but reasonably priced jerseys ? Or am i simply expecting too much ?

Dakine do decent stuff that doesn't cost the earth. Stiff have a good selection.

EDIT: .....wait, pockets? I presumed we were talking MTB.

Planet-X, Pannello jersey, £20 at the moment, often cheaper, 3 pockets, fits well, subtle design, good price. Sorted. The clubman jersey is often cheaper though they've got very few sizes at the moment.

This weekend i've got an on-offroad sportive type event, so as it's local to me for the 100 miles i was planning on riding without a Camelbak so wanted pockets for food/snacks/phone instead of lugging the backpack about for 8-10 hours. I've then got the SDW the weekend after which i'm not sure i'll get away with just the pockets, but i may try.

I'm not proud, Aldi/charity shops/eBay do fine for me. Occasionally I'll buy something from a shop if they have a good sale on.

I love their Flanders one, but TBH i've had too many crap experiences with them in the past year and despite me giving them 3-4 chances they've still managed to leave me despairing... So i try not to use them.

I've got 3 of the planet x jerseys, (either pannello or primavera I can't remember) and they're great, I'd definitely recommend them. They're fluo yellow, I use them for commuting every day and after 18 months they're still good as new. I think I paid £15 quid each for them.

The shorts however I wouldn't buy again, comfy, but the bonding is coming away from the bottom of the legs and some of the stitching is coming undone, they have had a fairly hard life though.

Plenty of cheap jerseys on Sport Pursuit at the moment. The Dare2B ones look alright and are under a tenner!

Wrong time of year to be buying summer jerseys.
Can usually find them in the winter sales around £30

EDIT: DHB usually good value - don't know how good these are, but they are cheap:

A fair few on Wiggle from decent brands for £40 or less. Considering they should last a good few years unless you crash or change size, then even at £40 they are decent value.

How much are you expecting to pay considering they need the material to be made, jersey to be designed, then for it to be stitched, shipped and have VAT added?

I dunno, i thought £20 was viable.. but it seems my expectations of price were a bit low.

They are expensive, but as with all things, you can always pick up something cheap if you look hard enough. Whether it’s purchasing from bike-discount, or getting something dodge off ebay or aliexpress, or waiting for last year’s designs to be discounted.

Polaris stuff can be very cheap, and great quality IME. CRC often have sales on products that get heavily discounted, you just need to wait sometimes.

Great example, I bought a Maxxis shorty tyre recently as it was very well priced, even though I’m not using it likely for another few months. Buy your winter kit in the summer and summer kit in the winter and you’ll save a lot of money.

If even Aldi are £19.99 then it's not hard to see why others are £40+

I have had a few Crane ones from aldi and they are good quality

I have a couple of DHB's and they are decent too.

I have the fox Ranger it is a decent top but when you put stuff in the pockets it pulls at the neck which isn't pleasant

Pay £20 and get some shite, if you want quality that fits and lasts then you have to pay for it. If you don't care about it just wear anything sorted.

BKB top at £15 is a really good buy if orange is OK. Black is £30.

I do work for Evans so disclaimer there, but FWE clothing is good stuff, great vfm. I use the LTR top and Ridgeway shorts for most rides these days. I can't wear the shorts through and the top's comfy, lasting well.

Never thought they were expensive. Technical fabrics that last for years for around £50. Still wearing the same Mavic summer jersey I have had for about 6 years and imagine I will be wearing it for many more years yet

Seems like good value compared to the more expensive shirts, polo shirt etc,. that I buy.

I have got s couple of Aldi ones £7.99 each. 3 pockets, would be nice if one was zipped though. Very cool.

I assume that £20 Aldi one is a more stretch fabric. It also has a zipped pocket too

I usually get top end or mid-range jerseys when they're half price in the sales. Can't tolerate cheap ones anymore.

Well I say usually, I haven't bought a roadie jersey in ages as they last so well.

A bog standard non technical t shirt costs £20 these days (yes, you can get cheaper, but most seem to be around that price unless you hunt out the cheap), so I think expecting to pay the same for something with features (zip, pockets, technical fabric, etc) is asking a bit much. As ever, quality comes at a price, though diminishing returns does set in too at another point

Er .. by being useless with the price options - you're right : )

I did think 'it's not that bad a colour is it?'

The ridgeway shorts are excellent. Like the look of the top. Fortunately I've been sponsored by Castelli so got a stash...

I have one of those ali express shirts, its really bad in every way.

I would spend £30/40 on a DHB or similar from Evans etc. It'll be decent quality material, pockets in the right place and and last years.

I got a very nice Probikekit own brand one for £6.99 a while back. Of course I was wearing the only Rapha top I own and a brand spanking pair of Santini bibs (first ride out, £85....) when I slung my bike down the road at 20mph last week and destroyed them both. Both presents too. Bah. Also the road rash on my hip is infected and stings like ****! Think I'll stick to the mtb, much safer

There's £10 off code if you spend £60 on DHB gear.

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/endura-fs260-pro-printed-short-sleeve-jersey/ has been great so far for me since May.

I got one of these from a chinese type seller who was stating location as being Ireland... Not sure where it came from but only took a week, possibly less. It's way better than i actually expected in terms of quality. For £12 it can last a year and i'll be more than happy.
