So the wife and I are off for a couple of days in Oban in September. Can anyone recommend some easy grade off road routes circa 15-20 miles near Oban. Ideally with a view of water and limited hills. Thanks
Kerrera might be your best bet, you can do a circuit of the island with views back to Oban, obviously its almost all coastal being a small island! Think its either farm tracks or good quality footpath, you can take a diversion to the north of the island to see the wee monument too. Nowhere near 15mile though, more like 10 maximum.
Dalavich would be a nice wee day trip, start and finish on the shores of Loch Awe, with a wee circuit into the hills with some nices falls along the way, takes you to the banks of Loch Avich.
If you mean off road as in anything not on the actual road, then there is a new cycle path that is being built between Oban and Ballachulish. It's not fully complete, but many sections are, and would make a very pleasant if undemanding bimble through some agreeable coastal countryside.
Cheers guys, these sound just the ticket. I'll look into these.
The path to Ballachulish carries on to Glencoe Village. With one small hill up past the old hoipital (now closed), you then have access to the little lochan and the waymarked path round there.
Just soutth of Ballachulish there are waymarked trails in the forest. Fire roads, a couple of hills, but decent view.
Kerrera is a must. Really nice place for a pootle round on the bike or a walk.
Lismore is very good too, get the Ferry from Port Appin.
Lismore, very good shout, and the circuit of the peninsula at Port Appin is also a good, short, but very scenic circuit, dead easy riding too. I'd suggest once you've joined the only section of singletrack on that route, keep eyes left and walk up the wee path onto the top of the peninsula ridge, which makes for a great half hour walk with some excellent views (not worth riding the path, technical/steep in places and a bit muddy).
