Looking for something a little less gimpy than being lycra'd up to wear on the commute. Does not require to be fashionable at all, technical is fine and reflective too. Shower resistant would be nice, if it's bucketing I'll jump in the car. I've plenty shorts including waterproof ones so do not need to be convertible either.

I've been using Endura MT500 trousers with click-in liners for two years now. Great fit and comfortable, although a bit expensive. Very well made.
Ronhill Tracksters / Bikesters. They're not tight like lycra shorts. And cheap enough.
I bought a pair of the Boardman convertible MTB trousers last month, happy with them so far.
I've really liked the Swrve DWR trousers. Not cheap (similar to the Keela above) but look like normal smart trousers and are good for cycling and wear well. They are my commute and work trousers. You didn't say how long a commute you were talking about, but for a short commute where you don't need to get changed, I like these. My commute is only 6 miles each way...
