For a pleasant bimble along. Camping near Dolgellau this weekend, looking at this for a bimble out, ice-cream/chips on the front in Barmouth, bimble back kinda thing.

Any good? Pleasant views? Any halfway-ish stops worth making?

The Mawddach Trail, its great, a bit gravelly in places and goes over the old railway bridge to Barmouth which is cool.

I'd stop for a pint at the George III pub, it's lovely sitting out the front if the sun is shining.

nice flat route with beautiful views...sounds ideal.
Pub stop overlooking old toll bridge on way back to Dol (possibly way out too ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

Did it in July. Rode out to Barmouth with ice cream on the sea front, then headed back and stopped at George III for tea. The riding is dead easy, pan flat all the way, except the final bit in and out of Barmouth. It's a nice couple of hours at bimble pace. A lovely easy ride for a leg stretcher or for all the family.

Perfect for what you're looking for really. Views over the estuary are great. You get a few walkers and their dogs along there, so a bell is handy. There's a fantastic ice cream shop just on the right as you go under the railway bridge in Barmouth - and the George III for a rest on the way back.

Have a good un.

Does anyone know if there is still a bike bus?

The trail website links to a summer bus service that carries bikes, but the link isn't working.

Jnr FD would get there, but wouldnt be able to ride back too.

Treat yourself to fish and chips at the Mermaid chip shop in Barmouth. A detour to Fairbourne is nice as well.

+1 for fish & chips at the mermaid, one of my weekend-away highlights.

It's great, we (mr Pea, me, and my 10-year old) went from Barmouth to Dolgellau and back, finishing up with riding along the sea front at Barmouth and an ice cream. The best bit was riding over the railway bridge.

If the queue for the Mermaid is too long, the arousal cafe in town is a good second choice.

Just wait in the queue at the Mermaid, it's always entertaining!

It's the route we do with the annual teddy bearbones bikepacking ride. We've had tiny people riding it in its entirety. The George pub is good - but don't eat a flapjack whilst resting on the wall waiting to regroup.
The landlords reaction has put me off using the place tbh

Well, we did it on Sunday, it were cracking.

Little'uns loved it (8 and 6), played on the beach in (mentally busy) Barmouth, I had a chip butty on the prom, ice-creams all round before setting off back and a couple of pints in the George III to round off a great day out.

Smashing.

I must get around to re-visiting Dolgellau and the surrounding area, used to live there as a nipper in the early to mid 1980s, don't recall going back since ~1990.

So many good road and off-road cycling options!

This has been on the to-do list for too long. Sounds perfect for Mrs Gelert.
