[#10281291]

I bought a relatively expensive bike light from CR over the summer - a Ryder Alumia 1600. I snapped the bracket recently so popped into CR today to find out how to order a new one. I was told to try eBay or contacts Ryder direct. I asked if they could give me contact details for them or their uk distributor - they said they couldn’t help. Will be winging in a complaint to their central team I guess.

I might be being retarded, but I can’t find Ryder lights in the uk - anyone got any ideas?

That is poor, the main reason I purchase from my LBS is for after sales support!

The za site is all I’ve found so far. Minimal information online at all. As their more lbs type offering I thought they’d  be better than a normal Halfords store. I guess I was wrong - they should at least have taken my details and had a look into it. Will probably avoid them in future unless their central team come through with a resolution to try and help.

Go back to Cycle Republic and quote them the consumer rights act

As they sold you the light by law they are responsible for fixing/replacing the bracket, or giving you a full refund

Its nothing to do with the distributor or manufacturer

If the person you speak to has no clue then ask for the manager and repeat the consumer rights act to him

For more info on your rights check the link below

I'm sure that would be the case if this was a warranty job, but I took the OP to mean he was responsible for snapping the bracket himself, and was looking to buy a replacement

Unfortunately I broke the mount coming off my bike so looking to buy a new one. That said we didn’t get that far into the conversation before they blanket refused to help so I’m not sure the response would be any different!

Ahh k, op never mentioned he broke it riding so i assumed it broke whilst attaching the light to the bracket

Only thing you can do is email their head office in South Africa and ask for their UK distro details or contact another shop who sell Ryder lights (pref an independent who maybe more helpful) and ask them about buying another bracket

There might not be an availability of parts 🙁

You could ask a question directly from this link.

Don’t say that - it’s a 6 month old light that’s still on sale from a major retailer. They should be able to provide spares.

I’ve emailed Nico at Ryder directly to see what the deal is. Fingers crossed!

As a counterpoint, I had an issue with the Garmin Vector pedals I bought online from Cycle Republic. They replaced them without any question or quibble.

Maybe I should have bought the light online instead of in store. You’d think the service would be better the other way around - but 2 people in CR both said the same thing. ‘Try ebay’.

I take it you mean the one at the bottom of Union Street? Talk to the workshop manager, Josh. He is excellent and actually gives a shit and seems to genuinely like helping. I'm not him! I do use Cycle Republic for a lot of my work though. Josh handles it himself and does a, frankly, excellent job.

Yup, that’s the one. Young lad on the till plus a guy maybe around 30. Just basic customer service would have said take my details and actually at least try making a couple of calls in a quiet moment to check. To say try eBay - that’s ludicrous!

Cycle Republic customer services still haven’t come back to me, but Nico at Ryder has done to ask for a photo of he broken part just to check what it is I’m after. Seems promising and I’m impressed with his quick response.

Still no progress so far. No more word back from Ryder directly since their initial emails and Cycle Republic say they don’t have spares but are seeing what they can do....

Wondering to ask for a refund and if they go for that I’ll try the  bikehut 1600 watt one that is getting raved about on this forum.

Best of luckbur your post suggests that you broke the clamp, not that it was in some way defective, so you likely won’t have the law on your side. I reckon you best hope will be Nico.

A lovely lady at Cycle Republic has sourced a spare bracket that’s in their demo car that they take to events that she’s going to send to me. I’m impressed with the effort she has gone to for that. Fingers crossed it’s the correct mount and it arrives next week. Of course she shouldn’t have to do that - if I were a buyer for a large corporate buying in a range of lights I’d have only done it for a brand where spares were easily available.
