Would'nt usually ask, I'll use anything on the MTB, I'm after something fast to get into work on the road and grippy to shred the gnarl to the max on the way home.

Well CX are only officially rated up to 3.7 on the gnarl scale..
CX bikes are great for commuting while being offroadable but they're not mtbs and don't handle rocks/ruts/roots like mtbs. (except obviously for the STW heroes, who'll now post that they've done near vertical rocky descents at 200mph in the alps on their cross bikes. While drinking a latte. while drinking pepsi max. and combing their hair).
