Given that I mostly use my CX bike as a road bike, I'd like to increase the size of the chain rings. Currently running a 36/46 double. Can I just stick a 53 outer ring on and adjust the mech/ chain as appropriate or will the jump from 36 be too much?
If both rings need replacing then a new chainset probably works out cheaper!
Also, are mini V's any better than cantilevers, or should I just stick with what I've got (Avid shorty's)

How often are you spinning out the 46-11, or the 46-12?

Not spinning out per se, but could push a bigger gear for more speed.
