HI
I'm planning on setting up my new Chinese carbon cyclocross frame 1x10
my quetsion is what crank should i use ?
I'll be using a med cage XT clutch mech
BB is BB30
I plan on using a Narrow/wide chainring (110BCD appears to offer the best range)
i can get a SRAM force CX1 crankset (110BCD) from CRC which fits the bill at £148
are their any other 1x10 options ?
What you going to use to change gear with as nothing shimano do on the road side of things works with a 10 speed MTB mech

1 X 11 Shimano 105, 110 bcd, race face narrow wide front ring 40 tooth and 11-28 rear cassette with non clutch mech. Works perfect
My thought process was a clutch mech would help retain the chain (plus i have a spare XT one), im also thinking that an XT mech will allow me to use a wider ratio MTB cassette and give the option for an expander.
as for the Crankset I did consider as you have done buying a double and using a NW chainring but had read that the chainline is not great.

ill be using bar end shifters as i have some TRP Hylex hydro disc brakes
Will bar end shifters work with a clutch mech? Not sure.
Any road crankset with a n/w ring will work. I'm using Ultegra cranks & a 40t Doval n/w ring, 10spd Centaur levers & a 105 rear mech (1x9).
Both 1 X 11 bikes shown have white bars, thats why the chain's have never come off. 😳
BTW, the chain line on mine is perfect.

looks like these will...

mmmmmm getting tempted by the shimano1x11 now, what gearing are you guys on and how do you find it?
Hmmm, That Microshift jobbie says "cable pull ratio 1.5:1"
I'm pretty sure Dynasys works on 1.16:1 (Close but not quite 1:1)
Will that bar end shifter actually operate a 10 speed Shimano MTB mech?
hat gearing are you guys on and how do you find it?
I'm running a 38 front ring with an 11-28 out the back. I used to run 36/46 but didn't use the 46 much in races.

Having a look through the Internet proves inconclusive some quote 1.16.1 others 1.5:1
Surly microshift have done their homework ? I'll email them in the morning, cheers for the heads up

Cheers, I'll be using my cx for commuting and messing about mainly (and two local races). Hence why I'm looking for a good spead, I've just done some quick costings and the cost difference is negligible between an Ultegra 1x11 and an XT/CX1 1x10 40T/11-40, the Ultegra obvoulsly gives you one extra gear but the XT allows for a wider ratio
kingkongsfinger: what frame is that sir ?
Its from www.flyxii.com A cyclo cross frame. Excellent, I also have raced their 29er carbon MTB frame all year which is mega.
I also have a Trek Superfly SL for reference, so I know what a good bike rides like.

I emailed micro shift and this is the response i got...
[b]Thanks for the concerns you reminding.
Actually 1 : 1.5 cable pull ratio ( Shimano MTB 10 speed RD ) is a kind of saying in the industry
to identify it's different from MTB 9 speed RD & road RD. In the meantime to tell it's different
from Sram ( Sram says its RD's cable pull ratio is 1 : 1, but it's not exactly 1 : 1 ). We'll correct
the saying to avoid some confusion may caused.
Our bar end shifter BS-M10 is compatible with Shimano MTB 10 speed RD.

That response from Microshift is interesting, I suppose it should work then.
"Industry Standard terminology" New one to me TBH...
So it's 1.5:1 meaning ~1.16:1. in much the same way that 2:1 was actually 1.7:1... at least it's all consistent bollocks.
The really silly thing is that Campag apparently use 1.5:1 for real.
Do let us know how how the whole set up works out I quite like the idea of a 1x10 CX bike with a clutch mech/NW ring drive and this bar end shifter would seem the best way to do it at present.

Hang on, does that mean that Campag 10spd should match with Shimano mtb 10spd?
Just marking the page for future reference

Nope, Campag actually uses 1.5:1 where "Dynasis" (10 speed Shimano MTB) is ~1.16:1 but apparently "the industry" call it 1.5:1 to help confuse customers...
