How do I get from the XC trail to the top of the DH track? Should I just ride up the forest road or is there a cut through from the XC?

I believe, you climb up the XC track until the old man carving (near the FP gate to the top of the hill after the short concrete climb) you then cut onto the forest road and climb up the the start of the DH track
Right bear with on this one, about half way round you climb up a really really steep short climb, singletrack decent leading upto it then a tight 90• Left, well if you join the road there and keep going up you will see a fireroad going off into the woods on the right. Hey presto ( I think )
as lookmanohands says once you go up the little concrete ramp (with the sculpture of a man near it) and then get to the gate hop over the rocks onto the road and follow it around to the left (up, down, up) and then turn right when you see another sculpture of a biker - you won't miss it.
